The purpose of the present study was to determine the difference between the effectiveness of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and that of self-regulated couple therapy (SRCT) on reducing the emotional divorce in couples. The method of this study was quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest design and follow-up with a control group. The statistical population consisted of all couples seeking divorce who had referred to the family court of Bahonar in Tehran in 2018. Twenty-four couples were selected by convenience sampling and were randomly assigned to two experimental (16 couples) and control (8 couples) groups. The subjects responded to Guttman’s (1994) Emotional Divorce Scale in three stages of pre-test, post-test, and follow-up. The experimental groups received 8 sessions of training in dialectical behavior therapy and self-regulated couple therapy, but the control group did not receive any intervention. The data obtained from repeated measures analysis of variance and LSD test showed that dialectical behavior therapy and self-regulated couple therapy significantly reduced emotional divorce compared to the control group (P < 0.01). However, the effect of dialectical behavior therapy on reducing emotional divorce was greater compared to self-regulated couple therapy. The results in the follow-up phase were also stable
