The research is based on thematic analysis. Through categorizing women status into three categories, proposition related to “women negative ethos” and“oppression of women” were extracted. According to the findings of the study, despite some undeniable propositions, lack of true understanding of the Iranian society by travel writers was seen to be occasionally at work in their reports. Thus, the travel writers’ perception of women issues can be studied in three modes: first, those who relied on their imaginations or cited other travel writers’ statements on Iranian women without having access to women. Second, those maletravel writers who had access to women and third, those female travel writers who had relations withIranian women. The variety of observations and discrepanciesin these three categories indicate that the claims made by the travel writers about Iranian women status need to be taken into consideration with more care and caution depending on theirextent of access to the Iranian feminine society. تحقیق حاضر به مطالعة مسائل زنان ایرانی از پیش از اسلام تا انقلاب اسلامی ‌از نگاه سفرنامه‌نویسان پرداخته و مشکلاتشان را در کنار رفتارهای منفی‌شان بررسی و موقعیت سفرنامه‌نویسان را در انعکاس وضعیت زن ایرانی مطالعه می‌کند. این پژوهش بر مبنای تحلیل تماتیک تنظیم شده و با دسته‌بندی وضعیت زنان در سه مقوله، گزاره‌هایی مبنی بر «خلقیات منفی زنان» و «ظلم به زنان» را استخراج کرده است. طبق نتایج، با وجود برخی گزاره‌های انکارناپذیر، در مواردی فقدان درک درست سفرنامه‌نویس از جامعة‌ ایران در گزارشش مؤثر بوده است؛ بنابراین فهم سفرنامه‌نویسان از مسائل زنان از سه ‌منظر درخور بررسی است: نخست آن‌هایی که بدون دسترسی به زنان و از روی خیال‌پردازی یا اقتباس از سفرنامه‌های دیگران دربارة زنان ایرانی اظهار نظر کرده‌اند. دوم، مردانی که به زنان دسترسی داشته‌اند‌ و سوم سفرنامه‌نویسان زن که با زنان ایرانی در ارتباط بوده‌اند. تنوع مشاهده و تفاوت میان سه ‌دستة مذکور نشان می‌دهد که شناخت زنان‌ ایرانی از نگاه سفرنامه‌نویسان، نیازمند احتیاط و توجه به میزان دسترسی آن‌ها به جامعة زنانه است. https://womenstudy.ihcs.ac.ir/article_1695_e721a54a8cf18c8543d44782d9ef681f.pdf
