Abstract

Today, changes in families have caused the beginning of family life, and the ways to end it, to take on different forms. Given the increasing rate of agreed divorce among couples, the legislator has been trying to think of measures to reduce this harm and its consequences. Referral to counseling centers is one of the measures that have been made compulsory by court centers in Tehran in 2018 to reduce divorce. The purpose of this study was to investigate the experience of counseling in men and women applying for agreed divorce, using a narrative analysis method and purposive sampling. Findings about women’s experiences of referring to counseling centers are analyzed in three stages: first; the decision to divorce; second, the arms of judicial counseling; and third, the agreement on divorce. Therefore, by submitting a divorce application, another stage of compulsory counseling for separation is introduced which can be termed overtime counseling, which in most cases leads to an inability to reach a solution. Of course, an aftermath of such counseling makes it possible to prepare for separation and to cope with the dangers and pitfalls of separation.
