Gender justice in urban public spaces does not simply mean equal access for women and men to physical facilities, but is a multidimensional and networked phenomenon that reflects the intertwining of institutional, managerial, cultural, and epistemological structures. The present study, with qualitative approach and using semi-structured interviews with 18 interdisciplinary experts, addressed the rethinking of gender justice in urban public spaces. Data analysis showed that the most important obstacles to the realization of gender justice include institutional and legal weakness, the construction of patriarchal power in urban management, the reproduction of cultural stereotypes, and conceptual crisis in the understanding of justice and equality. In response to these challenges, mechanisms were proposed at five levels: institutional, managerial, cultural, spatial design, and policy-making, including the establishment of specialized gender justice units, training managers, monitoring urban projects, gender-sensitive design, and strengthening cultural-media programs. results show that achieving gender justice has consequences beyond improving women’s security and access; it strengthens social capital, improves the quality of life and psychosocial health of citizens, and increases legitimacy of urban institutions. Thus, gender justice in public spaces is not only a group demand, but also structural and moral necessity for sustainable urban development and rebuilding social trust.
